Beans

Where do we get (some of) our protein?
 
BEANS!!!
 
Most beans have about 7-10 grams protein per half cup of cooked beans.  I will usually consume about 2 cups of beans per day so that is about 28-40 grams of protein just from beans.  That is equal or more protein than what is in a 4 oz. hamburger patty and almost equal to 4 oz. of chicken meat. 
 
We consume a variety of beans but our favorites are black, kidney, pinto and garbanzo beans.  Our hummus is made with garbanzo beans and I often pack either black or kidney beans in my lunch bag.  I find black beans to be the most versatile for adding to recipes.

I particularly like the Eden brand of beans because they are organic and BPA (bisphenol A)
 free. You can find out more about BPA here.  Also, since we do not use iodized salt in our house, we are always looking to acquire iodine from other sources like seaweed.  Eden brand uses seaweed to improve the flavor and nutrition of their products.
